Just One Body
"...so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others." (NIV)
Scientists tell us that the aspen trees that we see as individual trees are, most likely, not individual trees, but part of a larger organism that comprises the entire stand of the aspen grove. Aspen trees send out many, many roots, and trees rise up periodically along the root system, making them not individuals, but part of a larger group. Paul tells us that we in the family of God are much like that, "...in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others." He also tells us in that verse how we should relate to each other by reminding us that we each belong to "all the others." I think the aspen grove is a good description of the family of God. Even though we may appear as individuals, our real relationship is that of the branches to the root, and what a strong root we have.
