"Oh, how great are God's riches and wisdom and knowledge! How impossible it is for us to understand his decisions and his ways." (NLT)
How Unsearchable Is Our God
I cannot make any sense out of the piece of wood pictured above. I found it near Sunset Crater National Monument in northern Arizona, and I was intrigued. I enjoy looking at all the whorls and swirls and trying to figure out how they all relate to each other. Guess what! I can't do it; I can't figure it out. When I try to figure out God's ways and God's decisions, I often can't figure them out or understand them either. Well, I shouldn't be surprised. God is the God of all the universe. How can I, a mere man, expect to figure Him out. When things don't go the way I think they should, and maybe things don't go the way I asked God to handle them, my best understanding is to realize that Isaiah 55:9 tells it like it is: "For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts" (NLT). I'll just have to wait until I can speak to Jesus face to face to understand Him best. Until then, it is best for me to believe that God knows better than I do what is best for me.
