The strength built into this covered bridge is evident with the side pillars, and the roof/ceiling structure.  Both parts, pillars and roof, also add beauty to the structure.  Each beam, each piece of wood has a place and a purpose.  If one is missing, the structure is not as strong as it was meant to be, and the beauty would be marred.

The same two things, function and beauty, can be seen throughout God's great creation, animals, plants, and the human body.  As Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 12:17, "If the whole body were an eye, how would you hear?  Or if your whole body were an ear, how would you smell anything?" (NLT)  We certainly need all the parts in order to function perfectly, and the whole body is beautiful when all the parts are in fitting order in relationship with each other.  Of course, the church is the same.  God created the church to fit together with function as to its purpose and to fellowship together, showing the beauty of God's love.  Let's allow function and beauty, God's love , to be evident in our churches as a part of God's Church.

Psalm 96:6

Function and Beauty

Honor and majesty surround him; strength and beauty fill his sanctuary." (NLT)
