Focus on the Important
"I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus." (NIV)
It's easy to lose sight of the red flowers in the background because of the interference of the white shadowy shapes in the foreground (slats in a fence). The slats demand our attention. After all, they are right in front of the camera between the eye and the real focus of the picture, the red flowers. That's right, the same thing happens in life, even in our Christian life. The tyranny of the urgent takes over and often takes our eyes from the real focus. Have you ever had that happen during prayer? Satan loves to distract us, especially when we are talking with God, and we can't let him get away with it. The goal that God has called me to is my relationship with Him. What is it that can be of more importance than that? Like Paul, I need to "press on toward the goal."
