"One Sabbath day as Jesus was walking through some grain fields, his disciples began breaking off heads of grain to eat" (NLT).
Physical Food--Spiritual Food
In today's society we are far from breaking off individual grains from the stalks to eat. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't even know which ones were good to eat. Not all grains are wholesome to eat, at least not in the raw form. But I do know that the spiritual food that Jesus serves, right from the Word of God, is wholesome. It is life-giving and good for the edification of our souls. No processing is needed for the Word of the Lord. We just need to pluck it from the heart of God and consume it. I envy the disciples who were fed by Jesus, the Messiah, on a daily basis. I am grateful for the great service these men provided for us by writing of their experiences with Jesus. How often do I make the effort to get my "three square meals" a day from the Word?
