Ascending to God's Purpose for Me
"The lot fell to the children of Joseph from the Jordan, by Jericho on the east to the wilderness that goes up from Jericho through the mountains to Bethel." (NKJV)
The children of Joseph had been given the land going up from Jericho through mountains to Bethel. They had to work their way uphill. My guess is that the route was not a constant uphill grade, but rather reached several peaks along the way until they had reached the heights of Bethel. I believe they reached various heights as they travelled, giving them views downhill to see how much they had climbed, as well as the view showing the heights yet to ascend. At the same level there is satisfaction for how far they had come and the challenge of the remaining climb.
The picture above represents their journey, picturing several peaks of attainment during their climb. I believe it also represents the journey in my life as I follow my Lord Jesus upward in my journey to become more like Him. I have reached levels where I can look back with satisfaction and look forward with a knowledge of how far I have yet to go. The intermediate levels of attainment make the entire journey enjoyable, as I can enjoy the successes I've had and prepare and look forward to the next part of this spiritual journey beside my best friend, Jesus. Thank you, Lord, that my journey is both interesting and exciting.
