Margerie Glacier in Alaska is 21 miles long and travels at a speed of approximately thirty feet per year. The ice seen calving today started its journey 75 to 200 years ago. That might not be 1000 years, but to us it is a long time. I can't imagine 75 years to travel 21 miles. Even my Geo Metro was faster than that.
God asks us to be patient. In one sense of the verse above, Jesus arose just two days ago. That's not very long, but our perspective makes that time 2000 years. In the New Testament, various authors state that Jesus will return "soon." If over 2000 years is "soon," I've got a lot to learn about patience. One thing this tells me is that I can't be in a hurry to expect my prayers to be answered. I have to be patient. In my patience I need to remain in faith and trust that God will do what He says He will do. Lord, thank you for answering prayers. I ask for your help in being patient while I await your answer.
Patience: How Long?
II Peter 3:8
"But do not forget this one thing dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day" (NIV).
