Sometimes God Is Subtle

1 Kings 19:11-12

Elijah had fled from King Ahab and Queen Jezebel who had sworn to kill him.  God appeared to Elijah, and Elijah expected a loud, strong, and mighty expression from the Lord in his defense.  Instead, he got a gentle whisper.  I believe God was reassuring Elijah by saying, "Even my small whisper is strong enough to protect you."  In the above picture God again shows up as a gentle whisper.  If you look closely, you can see the colors of the rainbow evident in the lower part of the upper cloud.  This gentle whisper in the cloud reassures me of God's presence, care, and love.  Thank you, Father, for the gentle reminders of your love for me.

"'Go out and stand before me on the mountain,' the Lord told him.  And as Elijah stood there, the Lord passed by, and a mighty windstorm hit the mountain.  It was such a terrific blast that the rocks were torn loose, but the Lord was not in the wind.  After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake.  And after the earthquake there was a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire.  And after the fire there was the sound of a gentle whisper."
